Artella: a new way to bring creative projects (and dreams) to life

This is a short film created by Animation Mentor. 100% animated by students and alumni of our program. 120 artists from 23 countries participated in the creation of this film. We used the Artella platform to manage all the data and completed the project from concept to completion in 10 months. Check out: AnimationMentor.com

Artella was conceived by the team that created Animation Mentor, The Online Animation School; Bobby Beck (Pixar), Shawn Kelly (Industrial Light and Magic) and Carlos Baena (Pixar, Paramount).

This incredible team of engineers have made this dream possible. They have spent the last four years designing, developing and learning. Their results are what we now call Artella.

Their 10-year journey of teaching artists online had left them feeling that something was missing. What happens when you have artists from Iceland, Brazil, Turkey, Minnesota and South Africa who are wildly talented, but can’t seem to break into the professional world? Do they lose faith? Change paths? What would happen if they had a place to call home where they could build whatever their imaginations could dream? What if they could do this together and share their visions with the world? What if they could make money from them and forge a new path that might be even better, and more rewarding than going to work at a studio?

Artella is their dream and the hope is that this will open up new doors for creatives all over the world.

Artella’s motto is to be the home for creative projects of any shape and size.

Some examples of projects they have made, or are working on through Artella are animated short films, websites, VR worlds and visual effects for live action – but the possibilities are limitless.

They plan to launch Artella early in the second quarter of 2016.

Artella was derived from the French word, atelier – a studio or workshop for artists. It represents the idea of a global workshop or studio for creatives. Artella will be free to join and will cost a low monthly subscription fee to work on and/or post projects. More details will come when the full site launches later this year.

They are in beta now and will solicit both creators and contributors for deeper testing and feedback. Artella will communicate the selection process through a email list first, followed by social channels so be sure to join both.

As a creator You’ll have an idea and can communicate it to the community and get them excited to join your project. If a contributor applies to your project you can view their profile page and see if their work and style are a fit for your needs. You have the option to accept or decline any inquiry.

As a contributor You will get a profile page where you can post your work and bio. This will allow others to see your work and they can choose to invite you to their project. You have the option to accept or decline any request.

Social: Facebook, Twitter, Google+ and Tumblr. And more!
