By raising the profile of selected projects and placing them at the heart of mainstream distribution, co-production and financing channels, the Annecy Animation Showcase initiative extends the Festival and Mifa’s reach throughout the year at major international markets and events dedicated to cinema.
As the world capital of animation film, Annecy uses the appeal of its Festival and Market every June to shine a spotlight on works and creators from around the world. Beyond serving as an annual industry benchmark event, the Annecy Festival has become synonymous with quality through its expanding network of partners, including leading market players in the audiovisual sector. This reputation ensures both international visibility for animation film and reinforces its standing within the cultural landscape. It’s in alignment with this vision that the Annecy Animation Showcase initiative has been developed over the years.

Animation Day at Cannes
Animation Day came about in 2019 from a joint initiative between the Annecy Festival and the Marché du Film – Festival de Cannes. Every year, it brings the spotlight onto animation films for industry professionals, providing them with an opportunity to keep abreast of new trends and the diversity of creative forms in this field, right from the early stages of development.
A month before the Annecy Festival, professionals gather at Cannes for what has now become a key event, the Annecy Animation Showcase. This is an opportunity for Annecy to invite a select group of project leaders currently in production to present their work in progress and exclusive first images, and to encourage distributors, investors and sales agents to pledge their support. Panel discussions are also organised during the day to address current events and issues in the sector.

Ventana Sur Animation!
Year after year, the collaboration between Annecy and Ventana Sur, the leading Latin American market – organised in coordination with the INCAA (National Institute of Cinema and Audiovisual Arts), the Marché du Film – Festival de Cannes and the ACAU (Uruguayan Film and Audiovisual Agency), is highlighted by the organisation of an Annecy Animation Showcase. By selecting projects from across the continent, Annecy demonstrates its ongoing commitment to the region by bringing to fruition productions that are remarkable for their narrative and technical diversity.
