REPORT OF THE 49th EDITION OF THE INTERNATIONAL FESTIVAL OF CARTOON ANGOULÊME
The Angoulême International Comic Strip Festival, initially scheduled for January 27 to 30, 2022, refers to a period more conducive to its unfolding . This new date is currently envisaged in the spring, the period of late March / early April being anticipated.
This decision was necessary, following the meteoric development of the pandemic in recent weeks and the government announcement of Monday, December 27 introducing gauges for an initial period of 3 weeks, a potentially renewable period. This last constraint does not allow the event to adapt and is added to a number of other contingencies which already affected various audiences participating in the Festival: internationals, school groups, professionals in the comic book ecosystem, etc.
All the public partners of the event, the State, the Regional Council of Nouvelle-Aquitaine, the Departmental Council of Charente, the agglomeration community of GrandAngoulême and the City of Angoulême itself, are stakeholders in support the Festival in this postponement.
The comic book publishers of the BD group of the National Publishing Union (SNE) and the Alternative Editors Union (SEA) are also involved in this process.
These commitments represent a major factor of hope for the success and smooth running of the upcoming edition.
The very late period in which this postponement obligation arises will however require the implementation of exceptional measures to support the Festival .
This is why her organization welcomes with relief the words of the Minister of Culture and Communication, Roselyne Bachelot, immediately reactive:
” I answer that in all sectors in difficulty, and indeed the postponement of the Angoulême Festival will entail costs, we will be there to help them as we have always been there to help the culture sector, culture continues in all its forms; and the Angoulême Comic Strip Festival, and comics are a cultural sector, it must be protected and it must be promoted. »(Source BFM TV Wednesday December 29, 2021 at 11:44 am)
