Celebrating 75 Years -- CHAIN REACTION: Rube Goldberg and Contemporary Art - July 21 - December 16, 2001
Springing from WCMA's extensive collection of drawings by quirky cartoonist Rube Goldberg (www.rubegoldberg.com), this exhibition combines his work from the first half of the 20th century with contemporary pieces by living artists similarly concerned with humorous explorations of mechanical devices and functions. By exhibiting them together for the first time in a museum, WCMA will explore the connections between Goldberg, whose drawings have delighted generations, and an emerging group of multi-media artists working today. Organized by guest curator Ian Berry. This exhibition is a collaboration between WCMA and The Tang Teaching Museum and Art Gallery, Skidmore College, Saratoga Springs, New York. www.williams.edu:803/WCMA/exhibitions/upcoming.html
